Howland announced that they were going to be supporting a Foals/Radio X DJ set at London’s Scala a few months ago and we knew that we had to get involved. The Brighton based boys have played once before in a tiny venue in the heart of Camden but this time returned with a bang.
Being a headline DJ set, 3 different rooms of Scala were opened up and they had a variety of bands showcasing themselves throughout the night. Howland were in room 2 and secured themselves a decent slot.
They opened up with Waiting For You, a classic if you’ve seen them live before. The catchy tune enticed soon-to-be fans to the floor. They then continued on to play a few new tracks, followed by a cover of Peace’s California Daze. Of course the boys did the song justice, and it was a nice rest in what is otherwise an upbeat set.
Penultimate song Bruises, which you can find here, had the crowd roaring along to their memorable lyrics; “Who are you waiting for?”. Set closer came with what frontman, Tyler Adams, stated as their next single to be released in the new year, Callout. Overall, this was possibly the best I have seen these boys play together, they’ve definitely grown since their band formation.
If you weren’t fortunate enough to come along to the Scala gig then Howland have got a few more dates coming up this year and even a few booked in for 2016.
